Freshly baked vegetable patties
In lieu of dal and hot chapattis,
Coupled with chilled fruit punch,
Made a sumptuous Sunday lunch.
Our excitement knew no limits
When this menu got fixed.
We drove to the market
To buy all provisions in a basket.
Potatoes were boiled and mashed;
Peas were peeled and bashed,
Both got cooked together
With salt, spices and coriander.
This mix smelt so tempting
Was surely an appropriate stuffing
For the dough of refined flour
Prepared with margarine, salt and water.
We rolled the dough in rectangles
And spread the filling from all angles
One side got folded over the other
And put for baking in hot temperature.
The aroma of baking
Left our mouths watering.
Hot and crispy vegetable patties
Made the family happy and chatty.
An overjoyed family came running
To the dining table and stood surrounding.
Clattering of dishes and clinking of glasses
Effectively mesmerised all our senses.
